Cooperation agreement between universities of Heidelberg and Beer Sheva

The Hochschule für Jüdische Studien Heidelberg (HfJS) will be sending its students out into the desert in future after signing a cooperation agreement with Ben Gurion University of the Negev in Beer Sheva, Israel in August 2008.

The agreed cooperation is intended to promote exchanges of students and lecturers and to generate joint lectures, seminars and research projects. The Heksherim Research Institute for Jewish and Israeli Culture and Literature will be of particular interest for the German side in Beer Sheva. In addition, students from both universities can take advantage of the whole range of options offered by the respective partner university. The HfJS is already familiar with the University of the Negev. For years, interested students from the HfJS have been able to take part in a summer ulpan in the desert town, that is to say an intensive Hebrew course at the University, and learn about Israeli society through excursions and seminars.
